Moving Along

This week is primarily dedicated to furthering my final work, which is to construct a mock case that would ideally represent the roles of a forensic pathologist and the purpose of an autopsy. This mock case is divided into six sections: textbook groundwork, narrative, autopsy, autopsy report, and testimony.

Through some research of the textbooks that my mentor provided, I was able to gain further insight into the field and its expectations of it. Some of the aspects that were highlighted were the major duties which are:

  • To determine the cause and manner of death

  •  To identify the deceased if unknown

  • To determine the time of death and injury

  • To collect evidence from the body that can be used to prove or disprove an individual’s guilt or innocence and to confirm or deny the account of how the death occurred.

  • To document injuries or lack of them

  • To deduce how the injuries occurred

  • To document any natural disease present

  • To determine or exclude other contributory or causative factors to the death

Going through the textbook helped form the first part of my final work which is the background and foundation of the mock case itself. Utilizing the time this week I want to further my research and create the layout of the first part itself.
