I realized that for some aspects you can only be so prepared, and the rest is out of one’s control. This past weekend I had attended a business symposium where I was introduced to a whirlwind of characters, occupations, and experiences. Beforehand, I was extremely nervous about what would come, the questions that would be asked, and how this event as a whole would play out. I spent a lot of time preparing the most well-formulated responses, but with each step I took closer to the interview table, I was also coming closer to the realization that the most well-prepared answers would make it seem like I could not think on the spot. Although it is beneficial to have prior context, being able to come up with an answer on the spot helped me communicate to the interviewers that I valued the conversation we were having— something that I was able to witness unfolding beautifully before us. I was able to build more personal connections through what I was saying and convey it from passion rather than projection. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the seminars and being able to see how other ISM students had conducted their past research. This made me feel a little more confident in what I could do and provided me with ideas and more passion for the path I am taking to achieve it right now.
